Dear CVEU Educators,
Over the last three days, CVEU educators voted overwhelming to authorize a strike in the event CAVA administration does not meaningfully address our core values. Below are the results:
We are encouraged by the high rate of participation of educators in this important decision. The 300 YES vote sends a strong message that we are united to fix CAVA and make it the best possible place to teach and learn.
We take the responsibility you have invested in us by authorizing a strike very seriously. We will not squander your trust. We believe it is essential to improve educator compensation so we are in line with similar schools throughout California. We also believe it is necessary to address our spiraling workload, so we can better provide the attention our students deserve. Both fixes will help reduce teacher and student turnover, and increase the stability of our school.
Our hope is we can settle a strong contract that ensures a bright future for our school, our teachers and our students, without ever having to strike. No strike would take place in any circumstances, before March 2018. Our next mediation will take place November 28th and 29th. Our goal is to build on our recent progress in mediation—we agreed to job security provisions on October 30th—and fix our salary and workload. We will keep you posted, and let you know how you can best help.
