From our President, Brianna Carroll Dear CAVA Colleagues; Welcome back to school. I am very excited to start the school year off as your CVEU president. The main goal for this school year is to work with CAVA to create a fair contract for all CVEU members. A fair contract will not only help to retain the amazing teachers and support staff we currently have but it will also help our school grow and provide high levels of education and support for our students. Our secondary goal for the year is to increase teacher involvement in the development of CVEU. Working in a virtual environment often leaves teachers feeling isolated and alone; we want to break down those barriers to ensure that all teachers know that they have support and a voice at their school. In an effort to do this we are recruiting teachers from every RLT/RS group to be a point of contact for their fellow teachers. If you would like to help your peers please contact [email protected] for more information. Thank you again to the hundreds of teachers who last year helped make positive changes at our school, your support is invaluable not only to CVEU but also to all the credentialed staff that benefited from your efforts. With the voice of its members leading it, we hope that CVEU will continue to flourish as a positive driver of change at CAVA. Merit Based Pay Unfair Labor Practice (ULP)timeline: Last year many teachers were upset to find that after much hard work to achieve a high evaluation, they were told they would not receive merit-based payouts. Furthermore, CAVA informed teachers that this was due to negotiations with CVEU. CVEU spoke with April Warren directly encouraging CAVA to follow through on their commitment and recognize that the lack of merit-based payouts was not due to contract negotiations. Due to a lack of response from CAVA, CVEU and CTA filed an Unfair Labor Practice against CAVA. On September 28th CVEU, along with CTA, will attend an informal meeting to go over a possible solution to this issue. Please see the timeline below for more information on the process. Notes from our Teacher Outreach Committee…
Update from Parent Outreach Committee… Over the summer your CVEU Parent Outreach Committee has been hard at work creating new ways for us to build better connections with our CAVA families. Please follow the link below for a letter to send to you student's families. The letter invites families to join the over 130 members of our PTSA Facebook group. Our independent PTSA provides parents and teachers a chance to stay in the loop on what is going on at CAVA and offers families opportunities to build new friendships with other families. We highly recommend that you send this email out to families along with other strong start emails you will be sending out to families. Your families will thank you for providing them the chance to build new connections and stay informed! Your Union Representative Michelle Thornburg Representative Liaison [email protected] Every teacher at CAVA has a Union Representative as their first point of contact. This week we are working to compile a list of all Union Representatives and their contact information and will forward via email to all our members. We look forward to speaking with all of you! In Person PD Many of the reps this year spoke at their in-person professional development meetings and reported back an amazing experience. Many members asked insightful questions about the bargaining process and what CVEU is doing to help ensure they have a fair contract. If a rep was unable to attend your PD and you have questions please feel free to contact [email protected], we are happy to answer any questions you may have.
